Summary/Abstract: The author examines Popper's theory of the world of objective knowledge (World 3) and his theses on the autonomy, objectivity, and independence (from people) of knowledge, i.e. those epistemological propositions of Popper's that some theoreticians of information science (like B.C. Brookes) are trying to use as a foundation for information science. The analysis of Topper's texts is followed by a theses that argues that Popper’s theory of the world of objective knowledge (World 3) appears to be insufficient to determine the subject and the field of information science and that Popper's philosophical propositions appear to be insufficient for a foundation of information science, although they are relevant to their methodology.
