Summary/Abstract: In the shadow of poetry organized according to the requirements of romanticism, remained a number of initiatives and literary signposts that Milorad Popovic Šapčanin defined at the crossroads of two literary epochs with its rich and diverse creative opus. Acclaimed Serbian romantic, he had a very big impact on the epoch of realism at its very beginning, especially his short stories with native thematics. Narrating about Sabac and Macva, has created a superbly accurate and realistic poetic, stylistic and linguistic drawing that was the sign and the basics of creativity of a famous Serbian realist. Creativity, rich themes and forms, the results gave three hundred songs, two epic tributes, thirty short stories, two novels and ten dramas and one comprehensive itinerary. On several occasions, the manager of the National Theater, and his dramaturge, gave an important contribution in all areas of the development of cultural life in Serbia of his time. By building his literary identity, Šapčanin has actually recorded a phase of development of Serbian literature of the second half of the 19th century.
