Summary/Abstract: Drawing on Arnold van Gennep’s and Victor Turner’s definition and description of liminality as well as William J. Hynes and William G. Doty’s understanding and characterization of the archetypal trickster figure, this paper discusses aspects of liminality: periods of transition and liminal spaces, as well as the character of Mary Poppins as a liminal trickster figure in P.L. Travers’s Mary Poppins novels.
