Summary/Abstract: This article represents a short study on the concept of childhood through the innovative vision of Mark Twain. This study is focused on “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer” and it will discuss two important aspects about childhood at the late-nineteenth century. The first one is related to the role of children in the local society as a factor of amusement and release from daily monotony. The second aspect will focus on the political and social impact upon children’s behavior and their daily activities. The reader will discover the relation between the reality and the children’s games.
