Summary/Abstract: With the advances in technology and science, the future is often defined in terms of various forms of inevitable synergy between man and machine. In those imaginaries, the human body becomes a mere temporary vehicle, which is by no means constitutive of who we are. Being flesh seems to be only a phase on a path towards technoscientific progress, which will soon bring us morphological freedom – at least this is how transhumanism envisions it. The aim of this article is to investigate how transhumanist optics problematize bodily flesh. In this context, the text also examines how the exigencies of technoscience and opportunities for technological interventions change our understanding and definition of the body. Drawing upon this, the article makes clear how morphological freedom and the postulates to free ourselves from our biology for the sake of silicon bodies become a disciplinary imperative.
