Summary/Abstract: Children are the first readers. It’s a fact many academics forget. Academic research of children’s literature in Bosnia and Herzegovina is being marginalized. Only in the past thirty years the scholars are developing terminology for discussing texts for children. In Bosnia and Herzegovina there are only two books titled Children’s Literature. First published in 1977., and second in 1988. They are both outdated. Besides that, these books are the part of the obligatory resource readings in the courses Children’s literature at the universities in our country. There are no books like Children’s Literature New Approaches by editor Karin Lesnik-Oberstein, Children’s Literature Theory, Research, and Teaching by Kay E. Vandergrift or similar scientific work/publications. So, we desperately need new definitions, new discussions of children’s poetry, fairytales, novels, drama, etc. This paper will be focused at the theoretical issues relevant to the new approaches in the criticism of the children’s literature.
