Summary/Abstract: The article analyses the evolution, the aesthetics and the creative freedom in the art of the iconostasis. It reveals historiographic aspects regarding the evolution of the iconostasis and it refers to aesthetic forms encountered in the art of the icon through color. Notions such as artistic expression, chromatic harmony, iconic composition, have led across the centuries to creative freedom. Beauty as an aesthetic side in icon stands out through the harmony of all elements and the sign of the aesthetic presence through specific components. The iconography of the iconostasis gathers all the notes, characteristics and specific traits of the icon through particular and original attributes belonging to the unique coloring, permanently reaching towards being a prototype.
