Summary/Abstract: The present paper intends to analyze the Byzantine hymn entitled O, Heavenly King. The hymn will be analyzed from a dual perspective: liturgically and musically. From the liturgical point of view, we present the place it occupies within the cult, the elements of the poetic form (structure, versification) and its Biblical and Patristic sources. The musical outlook focuses on the level of metric and melodic structures, featuring melodic formulas and configurative modal lines, beats and melodic rhythmicity.
