Summary/Abstract: Tents have served the wandering man since the earliest times, acting as a replacement for the building and a place to store his property. Iconographic sources provide a lot of interesting information about the appearance of military camps, as well as tents set up on their place. One of the basic residential equipment in the military camps were tents with many comforts inside, intended for dignitaries, knights and commanders, as well as simple constructions and huts for ordinary soldiers, servants and camp helpers. Over the centuries, military tents have undergone the evolution of the construction and the materials they were made of. Also the system of their frame, along with constructional poles, were a subjected to improvements. Many of these changes can be noticed by iconographic sources.
