Summary/Abstract: Traditionally, Romania and Turkey enjoyed good diplomatic relations during the 20th century, with the exception of the First World War and the Cold War participation in hostile alliances. Nowadays, we are witnessing a spectacular development of the economic relations and good political cooperation on various regional security initiatives. Still there are some points of divergence as the two countries share different perceptions on how the strategic configuration in the Greater Black Sea Area is to be designed. Romania is actively seeking to get the internationalization of the Black Sea regime while Turkey, supported by Russia, strongly advocates for maintaining the current status-quo. But anyway, there is a good prospect for enhanced cooperation, confirmed by the extensive support that Turkey provided to Romania in getting NATO membership, support that is reciprocated by Romania as regards Turkey’s accession to the EU. Pragmatism, common will to make concessions and common EU membership would contribute to the advancement of a real partnership between the two states.
