Summary/Abstract: The paper discusses popular and rock music as a part of the wider category of popular culture that reflects the relationship between the so-called global and the local culture. Some elements of what is considered to be “the global” have been used in combination with the elements considered to be local in order to achieve the balance between the preservation of the original and ancient and participation in the global trends. The paper presents an example from the Croatian part of the region of Istria, where a local dialect is used in the combination with the contemporary pop and rock music, presenting the young audience with the key to re-invention of different levels of its identity.
