Summary/Abstract: This study examines the relationships between energy consumption, financial development, GDP, urbanization and environmental pollution in Nigeria from the period 1980- 2011 by applying autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) method. The finding shows that in the short-run energy use is positively related with environmental pollution, while financial development and GDP reduce environmental pollution. The long-run analysis shows that energy consumption is positive and significant in influencing environmental pollution. The results suggest that Nigerian policymakers should formulate efficient policies, such as adoption of low emissions technology in Nigeria to achieve a clean environment.
