Summary/Abstract: The article defines the significance of the materials from the Berlin archive of the Russian publicist V. F. Putsykovich for the source studies of The Citizen journal (edited by V. F. Putsykovich in St. Petersburg in 1874–1879). The documents identified in the manuscript fund of Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin, which were once part of The Citizen’s editorial office archive, are published as part of the article and analyzed in the context of thematically close materials from the departmental archive of the highest censorship instance in pre-revolutionary Russia – the General Directorate of the Press of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The scope of authority ofV. F. Putsykovich as The Citizen’s editor and publisher is clarified. The contract of October 10, 1878 between V. F. Putsykovich and Yu. D. Zasetskaya on the redemption of the last cash deposit, which ensured the publication of The Citizen, is analyzed in detail; the conclusion of the contract is interpreted as an attempt by V. F. Putsykovich to prevent the financial collapse of the publication and its sale by auction.
