Summary/Abstract: Neighbourhood –in Rupea. This work seeks to analyze the custom called neighbourhood as it appears in the south of Transilvania in the Rupea area, Braşov county. Neighbourhood is not only a territorial proximity but a social organization which develops through permanent functions of different forms of interaction and mutual support of the neighbours, irrespective of circumstances, or the fact that they are relatives or not. This custom is important for the Romanian area in which the Romanians live together with the Saxons and Hungarians. This area is spiritually influenced by all the communities living here. The neighbourhood involves a kind of association and the mutual support of the families of a village, those families represented by the "heads of the families". The associations and the support is not optional, it is compulsory and cannot be changed. The neighbourhood functions throughout the year and it is coordinated by the "fathers of the neighbourhood". This term comes from the Saxon "niebervater". The mutual support system consist of: help in building, work for the community, support for burials, administration of the lands and medows and the sharing of official news with the community. Political propaganda takes place in this area and community as well. Under the influence of the Saxon neighbourhood the Romanian forms of support are still strong in the villages within the region refered to.
