Summary/Abstract: This article discusses what should be taught in an adult-foreign-language or second-language-pronunciation class. Although many learners are concerned about their accent and their needs should be considered, mainly, intelligibility should be the focus. Intelligibility is achievable while accent elimination is hard to accomplish for adults if not impossible. In addition to some factors that contribute to intelligibility, such as intonation and stress, articulatory settings, sounds, and awareness, functional load is mainly related to intelligibility.
