Summary/Abstract: The paper deals with British and Bulgarian media coverage of the Olympic Games in London in 2012. Apart from being a sports event it is presented as a cultural, social and even a linguistic phenomenon as it reflects issues which have an influence on the United Kingdom, on Europe and the global world as a whole from a number of perspectives. One of the problems discussed is connected with understanding, interpreting and decoding media texts about the Olympics as well as texts not directly related to the Games themselves.
