Summary/Abstract: Due to the fact that the fighting between the government forces and the various fighter groups were increased and the humanitarian situation severely affected, the UN Security Council decided to run a UN mission, called UNMIL. At the level of the central structure, but also at the local level, directly subordinated to the Office of the Special Representative of UN Secretary General in Liberia, a Civil Affairs component accomplished specific activities with the role to ensure the interface between the mission command and the local actors, full filling multiple essential specific tasks. Also, at the Battalion level, we could find the CIMIC component and also the UN military observers teams had a CIMIC officer in charge. A peculiarity of this mission was the presence of Civil Affairs and CIMIC elements.
