Summary/Abstract: Malignant neoplasia in the oro-maxillo-facial territory has proved to have a substantial emotional impact upon the patient. For the majority of patients, survival in case of cancer means to live under the permanent threat of relapse, fear of death, disability, disfigurement, dependence on others. Nevertheless, it was found that the reconstruction of substance loss, resulting from surgery, increases the quality of life by improving mastication, deglutition, physiognomy, and phonation. On the other hand, radiotherapy or/and chemotherapy were frequently associated with depression and anxiety. The presence of these psychiatric conditions in oncologic patient decreases the quality of life, which implies prevention or early diagnosis and treatment of psychiatric disorders associated with cancer in the oro-maxillofacial territory.
