Summary/Abstract: This article aims at examining the complex relationships between language and the universe of reference (Sapir-Whorf hypothesis), based on the analysis of a corpus including articles dealing with the problem of stray dogs in two different cultures: Romanian and French. We explore the inherent argumentative potential of the vocabulary on community dogs as well as its capacity to generate debates concerning the designated reality and the ways of designating it.
