Summary/Abstract: This study is a review of some cognitive biases that occur in our everyday social thinking. Their influence on the way we process social information often goes unnoticed. Although the literature makes no distinction between cognitive biases from the perspective of motivational influences on them, this article addresses this issue. A section of the article focuses on the influence of the affective state on cognitive biases. It is our belief that a minimal knowledge of the cognitive biases we make about ourselves and others can be a real help in the effort to correct these distorsions of information.
