Summary/Abstract: The aim of this study is to present the synthesis of investigations revealed in the literature, on the issues of institutionalized adolescents and the peculiarities of their personality, as well as the results of a personal research, which aimed to investigate the image and self-esteem among institutionalized adolescents, compared to a group of adolescents from normal families. The objectives were: the formation of self-consciousness in adolescents, as well as the role played by self-esteem in the dynamics of personality and the functioning of the child and adolescent; the role of the family in developing the personality of the teenager; the issue of institutionalization (the causes and risks of this situation in which many children and adolescents are present), as well as the personality characteristics of institutionalized adolescents. Research results indicate that institutionalized adolescents tend to show a more pronounced discrepancy between self-perceptions of the current Eu and expectations of the ideal person.
