Summary/Abstract: The study offers a tour of the neuralgic points of social history of the Přemyslid duchy in the 10–12th centuries. The author focuses first on the analysis of the historiography concerning the issues of the social structure and dynamics. In the next step, he discusses the question of the existence of the elites and their character, first using archaeological sources and then by means of an analysis of Cosmas’ chronicle. Subsequently, he focuses on the issue of the “offices”, properties and residences of the elite, their participation in power and finally the existence of local elites. The third part offers an analysis of sources that provide information about lower social classes as well as basic statistical processing of the acquired data. The following part, reminding of some key existential problems of the rural population (duties, freedom, social position, the level of burdening by levies, services and payments, and such like), is unfortunately based only on “anecdotal evidence”.
