Summary/Abstract: The role of the Austrian-Hungarian Joint Army as an occupying power in the First World War is a neglected historical theme in Austria, probably because it does not correspond to the nostalgic image of a multi-ethnic empire peacefully ruled by a paternal emperor. This paper deals with the Austro-Hungarian occupation of the Kingdom of Montenegro in the years of 1916-1918, for which the Austrian half of the Dual Monarchy was primarily responsible.
