Summary/Abstract: In view of the fact that English is one of the most widely spoken languages and given its immense importance in our country’s educational system, this paper focuses on the factor which, in the author’s opinion, significantly influences successful English language learning – i.e. pupils / students’ attitudes to studying the language. The paper first provides an overview of the basic theoretical concepts and makes comparisons to similar studies. It then focuses on the research which was conducted with a view to determining the attitude of non-philological faculties students towards foreign language learning, so as to establish to what extent their viewpoint influences a successful language learning outcome. In addition, it also provides a detailed description of the research methodology, the method used to process data and analyses the results. Finally, it ends with implications for English language teaching and suggestions for further research.
