Summary/Abstract: Looking at the images of death, dying and afterlife in Herbert’s poetry allows us to acknowledge the function of personal as a means of escaping the terrors of death. This consoling privacy reveals itself in the commonality of the language and, above all, in recognizing the meaning of insignificant everyday objects.
