Summary/Abstract: The author discusses a gradual change reflected in the design of the ethnology curricula at the Comenius University in Bratislava during the period of 1989 – 2007. Examination of curricula shows how the course of study has been subject to an altering demand of both social science discourse, and politics and the labor market. The author considers the interplay of ethnological curricula heterogeneity, teaching methods and limits of further public engagement. The data also call into question European standardization of university teaching. This particular curricula analysis serves as a case study for much wider debate in the Central European region.
