Summary/Abstract: The great humanitarian crisis in the 21st century, accompanied by the migration movements of the population, did not bypass Bosnia and Herzegovina. Given the newly emerging situation, the question arises about the role that social work can and should be, and what challenges are being posed in the education of future social workers. According to the International Definition of Social Work, the basic principles of social work are: social justice, human rights, collective responsibility and respectful diversity. Global standards for education and training in social work also link the values and principles of contemporary social work with the standards of education for social work. In this paper we will deal with the possibility of following the Global standards for education and training in social work in the contemporary Bosnian-Herzegovinian society. The aim of the paper is to emphasize the importance of social work in addressing social problems on a global scale, as well as the professional challenges and concerns placed on the profession of social work, and hence the challenges in the education of social workers who have inherited a sixty- year tradition.
