Summary/Abstract: Aim: The aim of this study is to determine whether nomophobia has an effect on intrinsic motivation. In this study, a questionnaire was applied to determine the effect of nomophoby on intrinsic motivation in university students. Method: A total of 420 students from studying at various departments were included in the survey. 20 questionnaires that had mistakes were eliminated; analyses were performed to 400 questionnaires. Findings: It has been determined that nomophobia variable positively affects intrinsic motivation, loss of communication from sub-dimensions, inability to access online and lack of information positively affect intrinsic motivation, while deprivation variable does not affect the variable. Results: It was determined that the level of nomophobia and the level of intrinsic motivation of the students were high. Although intrinsic motivation is associated with the peace of the individual, the effect of family and environment on the individual cannot be ignored. In this respect, it is thought that the creation of barriers to the use of smart phones in high education institutions (not being introduced to school or using a signal disturbance) will positively affect the internal motivation and success of the individual in the long term.
