Succession Planning in Family Farms

Summary/Abstract: Succession is a very significant problem, and there are a lot of articles aboutsuccession in family business. In a family business, most successors come from the family.Succession is also very important in family farms. Continuous transfer of farm ownershipamong family members influences farms success in the future and it requires a developmentof a succession plan. The author was analyzing succession plans in family business andsuccession plans prepared for farms in developed countries of Europe and other partsof world. Based on this information a model succession plan for family farms was prepared.Succession planning should be promoted among farmers in Poland, as it stimulates thinkingabout the future of polish family farms. In Polish agriculture succession planning is notvery popular, it is mostly unknown, and research in this field has not yet been conducted.
