Summary/Abstract: On May 26th, 1918 The Democratic Republic of Georgia declared independence, which the Republic of Poland recognized on 29 January 1919. In February 1921 Bolshevik Russia conquered Georgia. The Polish government did not recognize Georgia's Soviet annexation. Moreover, Marshal Youssef Pilsudski opened borders to Georgian army officers and cadets, and employed dozens of Georgian soldiers. Many of them came to Poland.After the end of the Soviet occupation in 1991, Georgia re-declared state independ-ence. Soon after, on March 24th, 1992, the Polish authorities adopted a resolution, and on April 28 of the same year, diplomatic relations between the two countries were restored. Among the Signatories of the Independence Act of Georgia were Polish politicians at the beginning of the 20th century and also at the end of the century.The article discusses important issues of Poland-Georgia relations, contributing to the role of Poles in the development of Georgia's independence and culture.
