Summary/Abstract: In the elections of May 20, 1990, all of the old regime’s logistics worked to bring people to the polls and to indicate who to vote for: FSN and Ion Iliescu. The fact that the FSN declared itself a political party was the key element that distorted the electoral process. But the elections cannot be considered atypical. It happened what was supposed to happen, since, in essence, the population did not disapprove with communism, but with famine, poverty, and Ion Iliescu seemed to want to continue communism, to ensure stability.
