Summary/Abstract: Regarding the phenomenon of organized crime, the author presents certain points of view related to the evolution, ways of manifestation, and probable tendencies in its evolution. The article comprises an analysis of the new forms of organization of trans-border/transnational crime that takes advantage of the current legislative gap, the internet facilities and the opportunities offered by the economic-financial crisis, reaching the conclusion that the organized criminal groups have an evermore dynamic and complex characteristics, representing a major threat nowadays to the security and prosperity of European Union countries and not only.
