Dependency as a Specific Strategy of Homelessness Survival

Summary/Abstract: At present, homelessness is a contemporary and ongoing social pheno-menon. In this context, it is in many cases often accompanied by alcohol and/or drug dependence or a combination of addictions with other mental illnesses. Nevertheless, it can be perceived by the homeless themselves as a certain strategy for surviving on the streets. This paper analyzes the presence and extent of dependence among homeless people using existing low-threshold social services in the city of Trenčín, Slovakia.
