Summary/Abstract: The use of specialist discourse in a variety of disciplines has become a central issue of linguistic research. However, even though the world of music has adopted English as a predominant means of communication among musicians, its specific language has remained on the periphery of interest of discourse analysts. As a result, little is known about the genres specific to the domain of music and their language. This paper concentrates on the genre of musical discourse promoting a musical performance, namely the concert notice; it defines this genre from the perspective of text type and describes its lexical aspect, focusing on different stylistic layers. The aim of the study is to show that there is a correlation between the communicative purposes of the concert notice and the vocabulary layers employed in the genre.
