Summary/Abstract: The aim of the following paper is to present health behaviours of physical education teachers, relating them to their gender and work experience, and to discuss them as significant elements of their predispositions and competence for realization of the health education programme at school. 150 teachers were tested with the diagnostic survey method. According to the obtained results, the majority of respondents have good family and professional relations, care about their development, physical fitness and good physical and mental state. Nevertheless, there were observed some undesirable behaviours in teachers’ work, such as alcohol drinking, taking substances, insufficient self-education or unsatisfactory help for people in need. Men drink alcohol or use other substances significantly more often than women. Women, in turn, more often take care about their looks and slim figures. Regular helping the needy is declared most frequently by the persons with the longest and the shortest work experience. Those with the longest work experience mostly declare good family relations, whereas caring for their looks and slim figure is declared first of all by the persons with the shortest work experience.
