Summary/Abstract: The paper deals with the thematic organization in paragraphs. It elaborates on the paragraph typology pioneered by Mathesius (1942) and Daneš (1994, 1995), and draws a distinction between two paragraph supratypes, viz. the narrow P-theme paragraphs and their broad P-theme counterparts. Focussing on the former, the study explores their register-specific tendencies detected in a corpus of authentic British English texts.
