Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is to show the level of political participation of women in 2002–2014 in rural communes of the Łódź region. Participation is understood in the article as a candidate in local government elections and performing the function of commune head, councilor and village representative. In addition, the characteristics of rural communes were approximated from the perspective of feminizing the commune office. The survey showed that there is a small increase in the number of women in representation in local government authorities. The number of women holding the function of chairman of the commune council is low, but higher than the number of women acting as the mayor. The high position of women also appeared as the treasurer and secretary of the commune. A similar tendency associated with the number of women in the local environment can be seen on the example of municipal authorities.
