Summary/Abstract: The determinants of complex measurment of structure changes are discussed on the base of an age structure example. The most appro-, priate determinant is the normative distance between vectors of multydimention space, expressing the dynamic structure. The co-ordinates of each vector are proportions of selected age groups of population in a fix moment. The total age structure variation is divided by two components according to the direction and the degree of discrepancy between proportions of a real structure and a hypothetical structure with equal proportions. By their one nature, the age structure changes impact the increments all intensive indicators, for example fertility and death rate (per 1000). Any change (increment) of a such indicator is presented by two components. The first one is structural and indicates the impact of the change in population age structure. The second component expresses the total impact of the variation of the intensive characteristics by age. By this approach the adjustment of rates is to be ovecome. The author considers two structure effects — common or effects accounting for rate variation to evaluate structural or not-structural contribution of each age group in the component or total increment. The are applicable in any case of studies on structure changes and intensive indicators.
