Summary/Abstract: The reform of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Serbia is focused on creating professional, decentralized and depoliticized police. In this sense, one of the priority areas of reform and community policing as a key area of work whose exercise to achieve the transformation of the classical model the performance of the police role. The basic idea of community co-operation between police and citizens in solving the basic problems of the local community, starting right from the citizens, their needs and expectations. The police should serve the citizens, and the attitudes and expectations of the people must be taken as a relevant factor that should significantly influence the direction and nature of the activities of state authorities and the police in particular. On the way of these efforts was adopted strategy of community policing which promotes the concept of a new model of organization and work of the police in Serbia. It provides guidance on the establishment and development of new ways of cooperation between the police and citizens, communities and institutions to enhance their personal and collective security. The paper will present the strategy of community policing through the allocation and consideration of certain parts of the content in which they present the basics and attitudes relevant to the development and implementation of community policing in the country. In particular, we explore the (1) The basic goals and policies of community policing and (2) development activities of community policing.
