Summary/Abstract: We provide a historiographical sketch of the studies of the Late Antique Cimmerian Bosporus, especially those of the ethnic and confessional situation, starting from the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries. The most important archaeological research is indicated in the context of the designated topic, and the most important problems and thematic aspects are highlighted. Priority attention is given to the European side of the Bosporus, which has been more important historically in the period under review. A conclusion is drawn that, in general, the problems of population change, as well as Christianization of the European Bosporus in the 6th — 7th centuries, especially in the recent years, did not attract any special attention, and in this perspective the history of the region has been overlooked. The main analyzed works are based on archaeological material, also without general historical reconstructions, which did not take into account many recent works in separate microzones of the European Bosporus.
