Summary/Abstract: The article provides the information on the significant changes and reforms in the academic education carried out by the Austrian state authorities in the second half of the 18th century. In accordance with the educational reform the authorities introduced changes related to numerous regulations, rules and decrees at the end of the 18th century, including the basics of the syllabi at the colleges of philosophy and theological schools. They also introduced inspection into schools and placed education under their jurisdiction, especially in the time of Enlightenment and Josephinism. The above stated changes and the interventions by the State also took place at the time of the foundation of the Diocesan Faculty of Philosophy and the School of Theology in Đakovo, in 1806.
