Summary/Abstract: This paper deals with the historical analysis of the emergence and development of the first financial institutions in Serbia in the second half of the nineteenth century to the outbreak of the First World War. The relatively slow penetration of capitalist relations and the state-specific legal status of Serbia, led to the delay and the banking sector. To stop more widespread usury, the Belgrade authorities trying to establish legal institutions to deal with the banking activity. Thus, the first created Department funds, which are established after other banks in Serbia.
