Summary/Abstract: Conspicuous consumption is usually defined as the type of expenditure whose primary goal is to highlight the wealth and social standing of consumers. Examples of conspicuous consumption found in all historical periods and in all social classes. Therefore, the question arises: what psychological reasons lead people, both those rich and those poor, to spend more than its real capabilities in order to impress themselves and others? For the purposes of future research psychological bases of striking / status consumption is constructed psychometric scale that the example of purchasing and wearing designer clothes extent the relationship of respondents to the conspicuous consumption. In a sample of 833 students from 15 secondary schools and grammar schools in the territory of Novi Sad, Belgrade and Nis, confirmed the very good psychometric properties of this scale (reliability, homogeneity and representativeness). By examining the latent structure of rooms set aside the four factors (attractiveness, group affiliation, respect and prestige), which cumulatively explained 40.13% of the total variance. Theoretical and uses of this scale will be tested in future research to look for predictive relationship of its latent dimensions and have established psychological constructs. Also, it seems that the further elaboration of this scale can be extended to its application to other examples of conspicuous consumption.
