CRIMINOLOGICAL ASPECTS OF SECURITY CULTURE. BETWEEN CRIMINOLOGY AND CRIME DETECTION

Summary/Abstract: The article is devoted to the reflections on the criminological aspects of security culture. Security and relates issues in social sciences are currently becoming a source of theoretical and practical analysis not only in soci- ology, but also on the premises of philosophy, psychology, political and military science, and praxeology. The authors highlight the significance of criminology in security sciences. After the presentation of basic ideas such as security, security culture, social construct and the genesis of the term ‘criminology’, the authors clarify the difference between criminology and crime detection and explain that both these terms are often equated these days. Next, the authors investigate different categories of the subjects of criminological research, i.e. crime, the victim, social control, and social reaction. Research reflections of this kind, i.e. concerning social control and the mechanisms that govern it, are a wide trend in modern criminology, i.e. sociology of criminal law and social control. At the same time, these reflections fit into the framework of security culture and into the environ- ment of human security that this framework creates.
