Summary/Abstract: Currently, the world’s economic potential determines the place and impor- tance of individual countries on the international arena. Acquiring economic information becomes a priority when making political decisions, as well as supports the system of managing the state. This trend is also visible in the pri- vate sector exposed to constant attacks from competing companies. Stealing customer bases, financial results, projects is permanent practice. Business (economic) intelligence becomes more and more dominant among other forms of intelligence over the years. Its task is to carry out effective actions to protect the state, society and economic entities from possible external attacks and their destabilization. The aim of the article will be to discuss the con- cept of business intelligence (including its various definitions), specificity of action and evolution over the last thirty years. An important element is also the presentation of differences between the state and non-state business intelli- gence. The theoretical and theoretical considerations are aimed at introducing the concepts of economic intelligence into the world and the attempt to define and organize knowledge in the area of economic intelligence, the genesis of the uprising and the direction of development Rzeczpospolita.
