Summary/Abstract: The main focus of this study is on a basic feature of theological thinking of St. Augustine, the Bishop of Hippo. We highlight Augustine´s view of theology as life experience which he expressed by using the words of Scripture. We rely mainly on Augustine´s work Confessiones which is considered to be an expression of the author´s experience with the Words of God. In this theological work, Augustine offers a meditative description of his life and his conversion expressed by words of the Scripture. Theology is an experience of a theologian who was intervened by the Words of God, changed his life, interpreted it newly and also interpreted the Words of God for believers. A theologian is invited not only to explain the Scripture but also to let himself to be permeated by it and to strive to understand his life in the light of Scripture.
