An Impossible Pasodoble: The EU and Bosnia Today

Summary/Abstract: The EC/EU is involved in Bosnia for almost twenty years now and for the last several tries to take the leading role in stabilising this country. This article studies the instruments the EU developed regarding influencing Bosnia, estimates the extent to which the EU acting is a coordinated effort and explains the origins of such actions. It presents the major obstacles to Bosnia’s independent existence and joining the EU and confronts the actions of the EU with those obstacles examining their effectiveness.
