Summary/Abstract: Simone Weil, one of the most stimulating and significant personalities and thinkers of the twentieth century, converted to Christianity through the admiration of the ancient Greek culture, specifically through the fascination by beauty, the harmony of the universe. For her, beauty is a mirror of God’s universal love for the world. The contemplation of beauty is “the school of attention,” a way of learning to pray correctly and to accept the order of the world with all that is painful in it. It is perhaps a manner of learning to love the neighbor, the unfortunate one, with the most radical gestures of love. All of this fills the daily, ordinary life with marvelous poetry.
