Summary/Abstract: This article is based on the research carried out in the Opole voivodeship and it outlines the reasons of parental alienation towards their children with dis-abilities. The data was collected from three foster families and four social as-sistance homes where children and adults with intellectual disabilities at-tended. These are mostly residents, patients without families and not very independent. The research has revealed that initially parents do ask for a sup-port and institutional assistance, but if they still can’t manage they give their child away. The primary cause of such exclusion is the health condition and severity of the disability. Only in a few cases biological parents loose the right to care for their disabled child due to domestic violence.
