Summary/Abstract: The Ekthesis of Agapetus the deacon is usually considered a mirror of princes with a Christian touch in the line of Eusebius of Caesarea. Like Eusebius, Agapetus states that the power of the emperor stems from God. However, he also insists on another important Christian virtue: charity towards the poor. Based on this virtue, Agapetus, inspired by Cappadocian Fathers, tries to develop a particular concept of imperial power and shape the actions of the emperor.
